BHP, an ally to the environmental movement?

BHP has a history of bad acts but…..the bad acts of corporations are really the evil acts of individual people.

It seems that the current leadership of BHP are good people.

This is the kind of behaviour we want from a mining company. From the whole industry. Mining is an essential part of our society and it […]

Day Dreaming about a piece of land

This morning I was just day dreaming about blocks of land and what we could do with. Meeting with one of the leaders of the Organic and Regenerative Investment Co-Op got me dreaming again.

Came across this one this morning. 216ac with some flat land, some bush on a steep hill, Goulburn River frontage and the […]

Why I don’t bother looking for snakes when I’m out and about.

Whenever out and about on the farm or in the bush I always used to keep a careful eye out for snakes. Even so it was a rare event when I saw one before it moved. ie after it had seen me.

About 8 or 9 years ago I watched an Eastern Brown Snake come up […]

There is not enough evidence to prove that God Exists!

I’ve recently connected on Face Book with a friend that I haven’t seen in 17 years.

This morning he wrote a post that contends that God has not provided evidence to “prove his existence” despite the fact that God could “choose to provide enough evidence to prove his existence.” Leaving aside that the only place proof […]

Things You learn: red tape every where.

I’ve spent so much time understanding liquour licensing, meat processing, planning schemes, waste water regulation, carbon emissions and the bloody like I hadn’t considered the need for a permit to sell fruit and veg.

Turns out you need a license. If you want to do anything to the fruit and veg its an expensive licence.

Permit (from the […]

The disposable economy from houses to shoes to greenhouses.

For decades our economy has been driven by consumption. Consumption of increasingly disposable goods. This may be unavoidable for some classes of products but why does every thing from shoes to houses to greenhouses have to be disposable?

This post was inspired by this article in the guardian. I can understand that for many electrical goods it […]

Local Food isn’t always better.

Its great to see such passion and interest in reforming our food system but these issues are complex. Sometimes obvious common sense solutions are not actually what is best. A good example of this is the belief that local food is always best.

For example in America there is a huge amount of interest in vertical hydroponic […]

Regulations governing the traceability of food appear greater than that for Pharmaceuticals.

A couple of weeks ago my son nearly died. He was given a drug that he has had before but this time he had a massive allergic reaction. A “dodgy dose” was one of the explanations. The problem is that it’s not possible to trace batches of pharmaceuticals like it is to trace foods like salamis or […]

Sharpening the Axe and stepping out in faith

I’ve been working very hard of late and the pressures of trying to get a break through has been getting to me.

So I’ve taken some time out to sharpen the axe.

Literally and metaphorically.

Haven’t used any of my carpentry tools for about 9 months. Always important to sharpen the axe. I haven’t been doing enough of […]

Huge opportunities for Australia producing Sustainable Seafood

Australia imports an estimated 70% of the seafood we consume. There are huge opportunities in fish farming; the problem is that aquaculture is either highly nutrient polluting or has a massive energy cost. How do we farm fish without having a massive detrimental impact on the environment?

World demand for seafood is rising and because wild […]
